Record Associates were instructed to provide Architectural Design advice on the St Mary’s Street office conversion & redevelopment of this dilapidated, historic building situated within the heart of the Bridgnorth Conservation Area into a hair salon at ground level with living accommodation above.

Record Associates were responsible for procuring planning permission for change of use from A2 (office) to A1 (retail) at ground floor level and C3
(residential) at first and second floor level. We were also responsible to procuring building regulations approval and preparing working drawings for this complex little scheme which included providing advice on the sensitive conversion of such a historic building which is believed to date back to the 1600’s.

Internally, the stairs and means of escape were re-configured to maximise the space at all levels and expose the historic structure where possible to enhance the quality of the internal spaces. As with all conversions of this nature the principal challenges relate to fire precautions, thermal upgrading of the historic building fabric and the acoustic treatment of the floors, walls and stairs.
